With over two decades of law enforcement experience, including 12 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Jerome Pontrelli serves as Labaton Sucharow’s Director of Investigations. As a founding member of the SEC whistleblower representation practice, Jay has worked on the majority of our clients’ whistleblower submissions. Managing a staff of seasoned investigators, forensic accountants and financial analysts, he oversees all aspects of investigations to facilitate the Firm’s efforts to detect, investigate and prosecute high-profile whistleblower cases.  His cases have resulted in monetary relief for harmed investors in excess of $4 billion.

Over the years, in the FBI and in private practice, Jay has led over one hundred investigations into possible securities violations. Throughout his award-winning career, he has developed extensive experience in securities-related matters. In fact, prior to joining Labaton, he was a senior investigator at a prominent securities litigation law firm, where he worked on complex financial cases related to the subprime industry and auction rate securities. He also acted as lead investigator on the Madoff investigation team that provided valuable evidence to the U.S. Attorney’s office in connection with its prosecution. Some of his work was featured in a related 60 Minutes story.

Jay began his career with the FBI in Covert Special Operations as a Team Leader on the TWA Flight 800 crash investigation. He also worked on the Oklahoma City Bombing trial security detail. He later transferred to the White Collar Crime Health Care Fraud Unit where he spearheaded several multi-million dollar fraud cases, including many whistleblower actions. Jay was later assigned as a special agent to the NYC Joint Terrorism Task Force Operations Center, targeting terrorist sleeper cells within New York City and throughout the country.

Jay has an extensive network of high-level relationships throughout the state and federal law enforcement communities.
