SANCTION AMOUNT: $97,037,659

Defendants: Barclays Capital Inc.

Barclays agreed to settle three sets of charged violations that allegedly resulted in clients being overbilled by nearly $50 million. Specifically, the SEC found that: (1) two Barclays advisory programs charged fees to more than 2,000 clients for due diligence and monitoring services that weren’t being performed as represented; (2) Barclays collected excess mutual fund sales charges or fees from 63 brokerage clients by recommending more expensive share classes than necessary; and (3) over 22,000 other accounts paid excess fees to Barclays due to miscalculations and billing errors by the firm.
